Did anyone ever ask what you were actually curious about? Did school ever feel like a place to figure out who you were, or more like something to get through?
For a lot of us, it was the second one. And for too many Black and Brown kids today, school still feels like something to survive: sit still, follow instructions, get the right answer, move on.
Inner Spark and our community of monthly donors are disrupting that pattern.
Instead of guessing what kids, families, and communities need ➡️ we ask them, listen, and then act on it.
What does that look like?
When families told us they wanted to feel more connected to what their kids were learning…
🔥 We were able to respond with a take-home activity kids could do together with their families over winter break.
When kids told us they were spending too much time on screens…
🔥 We changed the curriculum to include more hands-on projects and less time on computers.
This kind of responsiveness is how we slowly make school feel more connected, more relevant, and more like a place kids actually want to be.
Why monthly?
Kids’ needs don’t follow grant deadlines.
A grant can take months—or even more than a year—to come through. By then, what kids and families need may have already changed.
Monthly support gives our team dependable, flexible funding we can use to:
Purchase supplies for a new hands-on activity
Adjust curriculum when kids tell us something isn’t working
Create resources based on what families say they need
Test an idea, learn from it, and improve the next version
Move on a good idea without waiting for a funder to approve it
Share our learning cycles with other communities who want to transform their schools
